Howard Qualifies for NCAA Zones on Saturday

DAVIDSON, NC – Senior Emily Howard scored a 293.95 to qualify for the NCAA Zone Championships in the one-meter event on Saturday to lead the Clemson women’s diving team against Davidson and VMI. The score was best one-meter score of her career.

As a team, the Tigers took the top seven spots in the one-meter while finishing with the top six divers in the three-meter event.

“I am extremely pleased with our performance on the road today,” said Head Coach Leslie Hasselbach Adams. “Davidson is not an easy place to compete at and our ladies handled it beautifully. We had many ladies step up today and have outstanding performances.”

Howard also finished first in the three-meter event with a score of 279.65, a season-best by any Tiger in that event. Tabitha Banks and Heather Britt each recorded career highs with scores of 254.50 and 237.80, respectively.

“I am excited for Emily Howard for achieving her NCAA Zone score this early in the season,” Adams said. “I am also elated for Tabitha Banks as she turned in the best performance of her collegiate career thus far. She was amazing today! It’s a great day to be a Clemson Tiger.”

Banks finished third in the one-meter behind Juliana Melchionda in second with a score of 256.35. The score was the second-best one-meter score of Melchionda’s career. Chelsea Uranaka finished fourth with a 253.65 while Megan Helwagen finished fifth with a 252.65.

Jessica Resler finished sixth and freshman Sarah Braun finished seventh in the one-meter. Both improved their scores from the season opener last week.

In the three-meter diving, Helwagen scored a 269.70 for a second-place finish in her first three-meter event of the season. Uranaka finished third with a score of 266.70. Both Helwagen and Uranaka have finished in the top five in all of their respective events this season.

Resler, Britt and Emily Yoder rounded out the top six in that event. Resler and Yoder also recorded career highs with scores of 253.05 and 237.40, respectively.

The Tigers will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Atlanta, GA to take on conference foe Georgia Tech at 11:00 AM.
