Hoey Wins Russian Open on European Tour

CLEMSON, SC – Former Clemson golfer Michael Hoey won the M2M Russian Open on the European Golf Tour at the Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club in Moscow on Sunday. Hoey won the event by four shots over Alexandre Kaleka and Matthew Nixon.

It was the fifth win on the European Tour for Hoey, who had missed the cut in seven of his previous 10 events on the tour. The native of Northern Ireland is the only former Tiger to win on the European Tour.

Hoey, who played on two NCAA Tournament teams at Clemson (1998-99 and 1999-00), had rounds of 70-67-65-70 for a 272 total, 16-under-par. He made par on the first six holes, then made birdies on the seventh and eighth holes. Kaleka and Nixon cut the lead to two late in the day, but Hoey made a birdie on the 17th then made par on the 18th, while his closest competitors both bogeyed the 18th.
