Gumulya, Rompies Eliminated at ITA Carolina Regional Championships

CHAPEL HILL, NC – Clemson’s doubles tandem of Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies was eliminated from the ITA Carolina Regional Tennis Doubles Championships in the semifinal round on Monday in Chapel Hill, NC. Gumulya and Rompies fell to Jamie Loeb and Hayley Carter of North Carolina, 8-4.  The match marks the end of a successful weekend at the Regional Championships. Clemson saw three players reach the singles quarterfinals (Tristen Dewar, Gumulya, Yana Koroleva), two players reach the singles semifinals (Gumulya, Koroleva), and two doubles tandems reaching the quarterfinals.  Clemson accounted for a 15-6 overall record in the main singles draw and a 6-3 cumulative doubles record. Clemson players defeated three nationally ranked players in singles, headlined by Dewar’s upset of No. 24 Hanna Mar of Duke.  The Tigers were competing at Regionals for a spot in Flushing, NY at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, one of the Grand Slam events of collegiate tennis from Nov. 7-10.  Clemson’s next action will take place at the Roberta Allison Invite in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 1-3.  Full Results: Singles Q-R32: Melis Tanek (ECU) def.
