Golf Sixth After Second Round of Puerto Rico Classic

Clemson junior Stephen Poole was the only Tiger to shoot par on Monday at the second round of the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico. The Tigers stand in sixth place out of 18 teams after 36 holes, two shots behind Georgia.

Georgia Tech stands in first place after two rounds with a 558. The Yellow Jackets had a blistering 278 team score on Monday, 20 shots better than Clemson. The Tigers had scored a 280 in the first round and were just two shots out of the lead. But, Clemson’s five players averaged 75.8 in the second round.

Florida stands in second place at 562, while Oklahoma State is third at 565. Arizona State is fourth at 570, followed by Georgia at 576 and Clemson at 578. Duke is in seventh place, three shots behind the Tigers.

Clemson senior All-American Jack Ferguson shot a 75 on Monday and combined with is 69 in the first round, is the Tigers top golfer at 144 after 36 holes. His score is at even par and 17th best in the field of 90 golfers. Brent Delahoussaye had a 73 on Monday, second best among Tigers, and is at 145, good enough for 24th place.

Martin Catalioto, Clemson’s top golfer on Sunday with a 68, good enough for fourth place, shot 78 on Monday and dropped to 28th place at 146. Poole stands at 147 after two rounds off a 75 and a 72. Brian Duncan, Clemson’s top golfer in terms of stroke average entering the event, had an 81 on Monday and is at 152, 63rd place.

The 54-hole event concludes on Tuesday.
