The Clemson golf team is ranked #1 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll. The Tigers are ranked ahead of UNLV, TCU, Florida and Wake Forest according to the computer poll published by Golfweek.
The Tigers are coming off one of their best fall seasons. Larry Penley’s team gained three wins and two-second place finishes in their five events. The Tigers will begin their spring season Monday, Feb. 17th at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate in Jacksonville Florida. The event will take place at Sawgrass Country Club.
Individually, Clemson has three of the top 10 players in the nation according to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Senior D.J. Trahan is the top ranked Tiger as he holds down the number-four position. Junior Matt Hendrix is ranked ninth, while sophomore Jack Ferguson is ranked 10th. All three will be in the Clemson lineup at the Mercedes Collegiate next week. They will be joined by senior Ben Duncan and junior Gregg Jones.
Four of the top 10 teams in the nation are from the ACC. In addition to Clemson’s number-one ranking, Wake Forest is fifth, North Carolina is sixth and Duke is 10th.
