Giambra Leads Tiger Divers at Tennessee Invite

Jan. 5, 2009

KNOXVILLE, TN – Each Tiger diver competing in the third diving event, the 10-meter platform, improved their place from the previous day, led by junior David Giambra’s 13th place finish on the afternoon.

Throughout the first two days, Leslie Hasselbach’s divers endured a rigorous schedule, as they traveled from the winter training spot in Boca Raton, FL to Knoxville for the nation’s largest collegiate diving meet. In the three day event, the divers took part in the one and three meter springboard events, and competed in the ten-meter platform event on the final day.

David Giambra’s placed 13th on the men’s side with a 226.75. Ryan McDaniel, in his first year with the Tigers, is emerging as a solid threat on the boards, notching a 19th place finish.

On the women’s side, Brooke George and Cassie Self, both freshmen, picked up their best finishes of the meet, with George taking 20th and Self 22nd overall.

The divers will return to Clemson and team up with the swimmers to take on top-15 men’s and women’s squads from North Carolina at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning in McHugh Natatorium.
