Georgia Defeats Clemson 7-0

ATHENS, GA – Third-ranked Georgia defeated Clemson 7-0 in a men’s intercollegiate tennis match at Athens, GA Tuesday afternoon at the Hopkins Indoor Tennis Courts in Athens, GA.

This was the season opener for Georgia, while Clemson falls to 1-1 this season. The Bulldogs are ranked number three in the latest ITA poll, while Clemson is ranked 61st.

The Tigers will participate in the William & Mary Men’s Tennis Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Clemson’s next action.

At number two singles, #35-ranked Jamie Hunt defeated Clemson’s Carlos Alvarez in a close match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. At number one singles, #18-ranked Nate Schnugg of Georgia defeated Rok Bizjak 6-2, 6-1.

The Clemson-Georgia series is one of the oldest in the Tigers’ history. The first match between the two schools was in 1937.
