SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – The Clemson Tigers womenâs basketball team plays in its final non-conference games this week against the Georgia Bulldogs and the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine. The tournament, called the San Diego Classic Coast 2 Coast, will be held in Viejas Arena on the campus of San Diego State University.
Both games can be seen on Baller TV ($) and will be simulcast 105.5 The ROAR. Tony Ciuffo will be the play-by-play and Faxon Childress is working as the color analyst.
The Tigers are entering the tournament with a 7-3 record and have been ultra impressive on the defensive side of the floor. Clemson comes into these two games with the second best scoring defense in the ACC (54.4 ppg), and the Tigers are leading the nation with a 79.1% defensive rebound rate. In addition, Clemson has held opponents to 35% or less from outside on seven occasions this season, all of which resulted in Tiger wins.
The CU offense is led by grad student Loyal McQueen. The talented point guard leads Clemson in scoring (14.1 ppg) and assists (6.0). Her passing numbers are nationally elite as she ranks 10th in the nation in assist percentage (39.7%), 13th in assists per game, and T18th for total assists (60). McQueen is averaging career highs in points per game, rebounds per game (3.5), assist per game, and is shooting career highs from the field (44.1%), beyond the arc (46.2%), and from the free throw line (79.5%). The Florence, S.C. native set her career high in assists against Radford (10), then matched that same total in her first career double-double in Clemsonâs win against Wake Forest (17 points, 10 assists).
Junior guard Mia Moore has been one of the Tigersâ best overall players this season. She is Clemsonâs second-leading scorer (11.4 ppg) and rebounder (6.4), and leads the team in steals (1.3 spg). Moore is also Clemsonâs leading three-point shooter (min. 25 attempts) and is shooting 43% from outside.
In the Clemsonâs win against Wake Forest, Raven Thompson became the newest Tiger to join the 1,000-point club. Tessa Miller became the first Tiger to join that club this season, and McQueen, currently sitting at 914 career points, appears poised to hit that same plateau later this season. Clemson is one of just ten programs in the nation that has had two players reach the 1,000-point milestone this season (Boise State, Michigan State, Nevada, Northern Arizona, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, TCU, USC, West Virginia). The Tigers are one of just. Four teams in the country that entered the season with zero 1,000-point scorers and now has two (Boise State, Nevada, Oklahoma State).
