Florida State defeats Clemson 2-1 in NCAA Women’s Soccer

TALLAHASSEE, FL–Florida State scored two second-half goals as the fifth-ranked Seminoles defeated 21st-ranked Clemson 2-1 in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament’s Final Eight at Tallahassee, FL Friday night.

With the win, Florida State improves to 18-3-4 this season, while Clemson finishes the year with an 11-8-5 mark. This was only the second loss for the Lady Tigers in the last 11 matches. The Seminoles are seeded second in this regional.

Clemson took a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute as Molly Franklin scored her sixth goal of the season with a shot from the top of the box.

Florida State tied the score early in the second half in the 49th minute. Selin Kuralay sent a head shot into the nets for her 13th goal of the season. She was assisted on the play by Sarah Wagenfuhr.

The Seminoles took the lead 2-1 when defender Becky Edwards scored her first career goal from top of the box at the 62:43 mark.

Clemson first fielded a women’s soccer team in 1994 and has been to the NCAA Tournament every season since 1994 for a total of 13 times. Clemson has also been to the NCAA Final Eight four times (1997, 1999, and 2000, and 2006).
