Like the nation and the world, we at Clemson University’s Athletic Department would like to express our deepest sorrow at the horrible tragedy that Virginia Tech is going through.
Virginia Tech is a wonderful university with wonderful people. I still have very good friends who live in Blacksburg and work for the university. I had the good fortune to coach there for nearly ten years and received my masters and doctorate degrees from Tech.
Virginia Tech people are just like Clemson people – good, solid, down-to-earth people with wonderful values.
Regardless of our athletic competition with Virginia Tech, we need to stop and reflect. We need to be prayerful for the families that lost children, brothers and sisters. We need to be in prayer for the administration as they work through this and the people at the university during their recovery.
It is a long and deep wound.
