Tyler Colvin was 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, and Josh Cribb pitched 7.0 scoreless innings as #3 Clemson clinched the ACC regular-season title with a 6-0 win over #22 Wake Forest in front of 5,617 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium Friday. The Tigers extended their winning streak to 14 games and conference-winning streak to 12 games to improve to 42-13 overall and 23-6 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons dropped to 33-19 overall and 16-12 in the ACC.

Colvin’s performance followed a 5-for-7 night on Thursday, as the Tiger left-fielder moved to 9-for-11 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in the first two games of the series to help the Tigers take a 2-0 series lead. Brad Chalk and Stan Widmann added two hits apiece for Clemson. Matt Antonelli led Wake Forest at the plate with two hits.

Cribb (9-0) allowed six hits and no walks with four strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched to earn the win for the Tigers. Eric Niesen (3-1) surrendered three runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings pitched and took the loss for the Demon Deacons.

Chalk reached on a bunt single with one out in the first, and moved to second on a wild pitch. Marquez Smith walked, and Colvin singled to left to score Chalk. Left-fielder Brett Linnenkohl misplayed the ball and as the ball rolled to the wall, Smith advanced to third and Colvin went to second, but Smith was thrown out at the plate as Colvin took third. The hit extended Colvin’s hitting streak to 14 games.

Taylor Harbin led off the second with a single up the middle. Andy D’Alessio struck out as Harbin swiped second. Widmann followed with a single up the middle that scored Harbin.

Smith and Colvin hit back-to-back singles with one out in the third. A fielder’s choice groundout by Travis Storrer put runners on the corners with two outs, and Smith scored on balk.

Wake Forest got their leadoff man on base in four consecutive innings from the fourth through the seventh, but could not score.

Adrian Casanova singled to lead off the seventh, and moved to second on Herman Demmink’s sacrifice bunt. Chalk reached on an infield single, and with two outs, Colvin hit a three-run home run to right, his 12th homer of the season.

David Kopp and Daniel Moskos each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Tigers.

With the win, Clemson clinched the #1 seed for the ACC Tournament in Jacksonville, FL and will play the #8 seed on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. The ACC regular-season title is Clemson’s first since 1995.

Clemson and Wake Forest meet in the final regular-season game for both teams Saturday at 1:00 PM on Senior Day at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
