Clemson’s Yannick Maden Qualifies for the Main Draw at the ITA All-American Tournament

TULSA, OK–Clemson Tiger Junior Men’s Tennis player Yannick Maden has qualified for the main draw of the ITA All-American Tournament in Tulsa, OK Wednesday.

Maden upset Maros Horny of Maryland 6-1, 7-6 (3) in the final round of the qualifying draw to advance to the main draw. Horny is a senior from Maryland after spending his first two years at Baylor. Horny was the #2 seed in the qualifying draw and is ranked #52 in the nation.

Maden is the first Clemson Men’s Tennis player in two decades to make it into the Main Draw since Greg Seilkop in 1991. Maden has not lost a match since April 15, 2011. Maden is ranked 74th nationally in singles according to the latest ITA poll.

Maden, from Stuttgart,Germany, won three consecutive matches and six consecutives sets in order to make the Main Draw. He cruised through his first and second rounds, losing a total of eight games in two matches.

“We are very excited about how Yannick progressed through the Qualifying Draw, said Clemson Assistant Coach John Boetsch. “Every set he improved and he played his best at the end of matches to close them out. We are excited about this accomplishment, and look forward to him competing tomorrow.”

The Main Draw will be made late Wednesday and play begins Thursday.
