Clemson’s Women’s Track And Field Team Completes Day One Action At 2005 Clemson Opener

CLEMSON,SC – The Clemson women’s track and field team competed in the Clemson Opener on Friday, Dec. 2. The distance medley relay team of Casey Phillips, Patrice McMillan, Thea Dix finished second with a time of 12:34.75 to lead the way for the Lady Tigers. Overall, 11 student-athletes from over 30 schools posted provisional or automatic qualifying marks in the meet.

Three Lady Tigers placed in the top six in the women’s 20lb-weight throw, led by Della Clark’s fourth-place finish with an 18.52m mark. Krystal Woods ranked fifth for Clemson (17.65m) and Rochelle Kokayko earned a sixth-place finish with a throw of 17.42m.

Christina Smith qualified for Saturday’s finals in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.84, and Ope Sobanjo advanced to the final of the 60m dash after posting a time of 7.89 in the preliminaries.

Michelle Rogers participated in the long jump with Nwankwo leading the Lady Tigers with a jump of 17’1.25″. Smith posted a 14’9.25″ mark in the event as well, while Rogers committed a foul on all her jumps.

The second day of competition will kick off at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Clemson Indoor Track. The final event is scheduled for 4:40 PM.
