Clemson’s Ruszka Honored by the ACC

Nov. 6, 2006

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson’s Attila Ruszka and North Carolina’s Lindsey Marck powered their teams to a perfect weekend of action last week en route to being selected Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week. The league weekly honor is a first for both student-athletes this season.

In the men’s competition over the weekend, Ruszka won three events and placed second in another to lead Clemson to a two-point win over South Carolina. The junior from Budapest, Hungary, won the 200 breaststroke and posted an NCAA “B” cut time of 1:51.52 in the 200 individual medley. He was also part of the winning 200 medley relay squad that finished the race in 1:31.84. All of the times were season bests for Ruszka.

Marck, a native from Newtown, Pa., led a balanced North Carolina effort as the No. 23 Tar Heels upset No. 17 Minnesota 212-158 and also defeated Richmond 284-86 in a double-dual meet last weekend. Marck was involved in four wins for the Tar Heels, the most of any UNC swimmer in the meet. The junior swept the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events in 57.38 and 2:04.18, respectively, and also swam the butterfly leg on the victorious 200- and 400-yard medley relays for UNC.

North Carolina hosts a dual meet against Duke on Wednesday, November 8, while Clemson is off for a week before heading to the Nike Cup Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. on November 16-18.
