Clemson’s Kyle Shaw Finishes Sixth At Clemson Heptathlon Championships

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson’s Kyle Shaw completed the Clemson Heptathlon Championships held Saturday with a sixth-place finish. The sophomore transfer scored 4,683 points in his Tiger debut. Maurice Smith of Auburn claimed his second consecutive Clemson Heptathlon crown with a NCAA automatic qualifying total of 5,749 points. Alabama’s Keith Baker was the runner-up with 5,265 points to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships.

In day two action, Shaw posted a time of 8.58 in the 60m hurdles, then cleared 11’11.75″ in the pole vault. In the final event of the meet, the 1000m, Shaw crossed the finish line in 2:57.49. Clemson’s Brent Hobbs sustained an injury and could not complete the heptathlon.

The Tigers return to action next weekend at the Notre Dame Invitational.
