Clemson’s Julie Coin Falls In Second Round of ITA National Indoor Championships

FARMERS BRANCH, TX – Julie Coin of the Clemson women’s tennis team fell in the second round of the Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Friday morning. Coin represented the Tigers in the singles competition of the tournament, which was hosted by SMU and held at the Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, TX.

Coin, the eighth-seeded singles player in the tournament, fell to North Carolina’s Kate Pinchbeck in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 6-1) in the second round of the tournament on Friday morning. Earlier this season, Coin upset Pinchbeck, who was ranked eighth by the ITA in the preseason singles poll, to win the ITA Southeast Regional Championship. In the first round of the singles competition, Coin defeated SMU’s Jenny Lange by a score of 6-3, 7-6(2).

Coin posted a 12-2 overall singles record for the fall season and was the ITA Southeast Regional Champion and the flight one singles champion at the Furman Fall Classic. She was also the runner up in the flight one singles draw at the Clemson Fall Invitational. Coin recorded victories over four ranked singles players, including two top-10 ranked players, #8 Pinchbeck and #10 Sarah Riske of Vanderbilt.
