CLEMSON, SC – Clemson volleyball sophomore Danielle Hepburn added to an already lengthy list of accolades for the 2006 season when she was selected to the CVU.com Stellar Spikers First Team, as announced by the Collegiate Volleyball Update on Thursday.
Hepburn was named Honorable Mention All-America in December after earning first-team American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region honors. She was also a first-team All-ACC selection.
Hepburn led the ACC with a .365 hitting percentage while also boasting a league-best 1.71 blocks per game average. The middle hitter from Miami, FL set a Clemson single season record with 158 block assists on the year and posted 193 total blocks in 2006. In just two years of play, she ranks 10th all-time for career block assists, while her hitting figure for the year ranks second in Tiger history.
CVU.com honored 80 student-athletes from across the nation, looking for players that exhibited excellence and balance. While NCAA statistical rankings were considered, they were not the only consideration. Also considered in forming the two teams of 14 and in choosing the 52 Honorable Mention selections was the impact the player had on helping her team succeed as well as conference awards.
First- and second-team selections were formed around the idea of building a team with a starting line-up of seven players and then two players per starting slot were chosen to fill out each team.
