GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second time this season, Ani Mijacika of Clemson has been tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. The sophomore, who posted wins over a trio of Top 10 opponents in league action last week, becomes the first to claim the league’s weekly award twice this season.
Mijacika, the No. 2 singles player in the nation, went undefeated at the top spot in both singles and doubles action last weekend. Against No. 13 North Carolina, the native from Makarska, Croatia, dropped the first set but battled back to claim a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 victory against ninth-ranked Sanaz Marand of UNC. Mijacika then followed up the next day with a 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 win over Duke’s Tara Iyer, as No. 34 Clemson went on to upset the No. 9 Blue Devils 4-3.
In doubles, Mijacika and teammate Carol Salge claimed key wins against a pair of Top 10 tandems. The nation’s 20th-ranked doubles duo posted an 8-5 victory against 10th-ranked Marand and Sophie Grabinski from UNC and later cruised to an 8-2 win versus third-ranked Melissa Mang and Amanda Granson of Duke.
