Clemson’s Ani Mijacika Named ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

March 5, 2007

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson’s Ani Mijacika has been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for March 5 after posting 2-0 records in both singles and doubles action to help the 13th-ranked Tigers notch a pair of wins over ranked opponents last week.

In Saturday’s 4-3 win over No. 6 Georgia Tech, Mijacika was instrumental in helping Clemson defeat the Yellow Jackets for the first time since the 2003 season. She posted her second upset singles win of the season with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over No. 27 Christy Striplin at the No. 2 spot. In doubles, she and partner Federica van Adrichem earned their fourth upset victory at the No. 1 position as they handed Kristi Miller and Whitney McCray an 8-6 loss.

Currently ranked No. 47 in singles, Mijacika also won easily in both her singles and doubles matches against 75th-ranked South Alabama last Thursday. She picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win against Yana Bokareva at the No. 2 singles spot and defeated South Alabama’s top doubles duo of Adrianna Solarova and Sylvanie Spangenberg, 8-1, with partner van Adrichem earlier in the day.

Clemson will be on the road this weekend, traveling to Boston College and Maryland for a pair of conference matches.
