Clemson Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Play at Duals in the Desert

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The Clemson women’s tennis team concluded play at the Duals at the Desert on Sunday. Sophomore Laurianne Henry had the best finish for a Tiger this weekend, placing second at flight three while two Clemson doubles teams and Keri Wong earned third-place in their respective brackets.

Henry defeated North Carolina’s Jocelyn Friend in the flight seven bracket in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) before falling in the finals to Keri Robison of Northwestern, 6-3, 6-1.

Wong and Ani Mijacika lost in the semifinals at flight one to North Carolina’s team of Marand and Tsang (8-6) but rebounded to post an 8-2 win over Ormond and Stanivuk of Baylor in the consolation final. Alexandra Luc and Estefania Balda fared the same in the flight three semifinals, falling to Northwestern’s Chernayakova and Robison, but then won an 8-3 decision against Andrews and Entekhabi of Southern California. In other doubles action, the Tiger team of Ina Hadziselimovic and Federica van Adrichem defeated the Wildcat tandem of Lui and Murray in the consolation rounds. They then downed Joelson and Johansson of UCLA to place fifth at flight two (8-5).

In singles play, Wong suffered a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Csilla Borsanyi of Baylor in the flight two bracket and placed third by default. Hadziselimovic fell at flight three to UCLA’s Maya Johansson in a three-set battle, 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-1, and then won in straight sets over Amanda Craddock of Texas (6-0, 6-2). Alexandra Luc defeated Alessa Waibel of Miami in the flight four consolation (6-2, 6-2) before suffering a loss to Baylor’s Karolina Filipiak to place sixth, 6-4, 6-2.

At flight five, Kasia Siwosz of Baylor defeated Van Adrichem in the consolation round, 7-6(5), 6-0, and then won by default on Sunday. Balda dropped a pair of matches in the flight six bracket, falling to Ali Walters of UCLA (6-0, 6-2) and Nazlie Ghazal of Northwestern (6-2, 6-4).

This weekend wrapped up the fall season for the majority of the team. They will open the spring dual season against the College of Charleston on January 23.
