Clemson Women’s Tennis To Play Two Top 20 Opponents

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 51 Clemson women’s tennis team (5-3) will face second-ranked Georgia (6-1) Thursday at Henry Field Stadium, then host No. 19 South Carolina (4-2) Saturday at Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Thursday’s match against Georgia is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm, and Saturday’s match against South Carolina will begin at noon.

The Tigers are 1-2 against ranked teams this season. The Tigers defeated #59 Middle Tennessee State University, but lost to #13 South Alabama and #56 Virginia Tech.

Clemson and Georgia have met on the court 29 times since 1976. The Tigers lead the overall series 16-13, however, the Lady Bulldogs have won the last four meetings between the teams. In 2000, Georgia defeated Clemson 7-1.

The Tigers and the Gamecocks first met on the court in 1976. Clemson holds a 19-15 all-time record against South Carolina, and last defeated the Gamecocks in 1996. Last year, the Tigers lost a 4-5 decision to South Carolina.
