CLEMSON, SC – The Tiger women’s tennis team will travel to Athens, GA on Wednesday, Feb. 20 for a date with the fourth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. Clemson and Georgia will take to the court at 2:30 pm at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in the first of a stretch of nine straight road matches for the Tigers.
Clemson is 3-5 on the year but has clinched the doubles point in all but two of those contests. The Bulldogs enter Wednesday’s contest with a 5-1 record with their only loss suffered against Georgia Tech in the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships over the Feb. 7-10 weekend. The Yellow Jackets went on to claim the tournament title for the second straight year.
Tiger sophomore Ani Mijacika won her 15th match of the 2007-08 season last Saturday with a straight-set victory at the number one position. She now 15-4 overall in singles play with a 12-4 individual doubles record.
Tigers Versus Georgia, All-Time Clemson and Georgia will meet for the 39th time in history on Wednesday afternoon in a series that dates back to 1976. The Tigers lead, 20-18, all-time, but the Bulldogs hold a 9-7 advantage at home. Georgia won, 6-1, in 2007 at Clemson, but the Tigers won in Athens, GA in 2006, its first win on Georgia’s home court since 1985.
