CLEMSON, SC – The 19th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will travel to Tampa, FL to take on the University of South Florida on Wednesday. The Tigers’ former tennis All-American Gigi Fernandez is in her first year at the head of the Bulls’ women’s tennis program. Fernandez played for Clemson in 1983 and was named to the ACC’s 50th Anniversary team after finishing that season ranked 5th in the final ITA singles poll. The match will be held at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts and is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. Clemson is 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the ACC. The Tigers most recently defeated #74 Furman by a score of 6-1 in Clemson.
The Tigers have a 10-6 all-time advantage over the Bulls with Clemson having won the last two meetings in the series. In 2002, the Tigers won a 5-2 decision against South Florida in Clemson. The Bulls are 6-8 on the season after falling to Marquette by a score of 6-1 last weekend in Tampa.
