Clemson Women’s Tennis Team To Open ACC Season At Home This Weekend

CLEMSON, SC – The 12th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will play host to NC State and Wake Forest as they open the Atlantic Coast Conference season at home this weekend. The Tigers will face the Wolfpack on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and the Demon Deacons on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson.

The Tigers, currently ranked 12th according to the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, are 6-2 on the season heading into this weekend’s matches. The team is coming off of a 6-1 loss to second-ranked Georgia on Wednesday in Athens. Both of Clemson’s losses have come to teams ranked in the top-six nationally, while the Tigers have recorded wins over #14 Virginia Commonwealth, #32 Baylor, #36 South Alabama, #47 South Carolina, Iowa and College of Charleston.

Clemson holds a 30-4 all-time advantage against NC State. Last season, the Tigers defeated the Wolfpack by a score of 5-2 in Raleigh. This season, NC State has posted a 4-2 overall record and is currently ranked in a tie for 75th in the most recent ITA poll.

The series is tied between the Tigers and the Demon Deacons, with each team having 17 wins. Clemson defeated Wake Forest twice last season, winning a 6-1 decision during the regular season and posting a 4-1 victory in the first round of the ACC Championships. Wake Forest is 7-2 so far this season and is ranked 29th according to the latest ITA poll. The Demon Deacons are scheduled to play Georgia Tech on Saturday before heading to Clemson on Sunday.
