CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team will kick off the fall season at the 19th annual Furman Fall Classic from Sept. 30 – Oct. 2 in Greenville, SC. This will be the fourth consecutive year that the Tigers will participate in the tournament held at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University.
Three starters return from the 2005 team that advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the second consecutive year. Senior Daniela Alvarez and junior Maria Brito were members of both record-setting teams and have earned All-ACC honors in previous years. Carol Salge returns for her second season at Clemson after posting a 20-8 overall record last year.
The Tigers welcome two newcomers to the team, as Kathryn Gerber and Federica van Adrichem will be playing in their first matches for Clemson this weekend. Also competing for Clemson will be senior walk-on Gabrielle Solek-Tefft.
This year’s event also includes players from Furman, North Carolina, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin and consists of seven singles flights and four doubles draws. Two rounds of doubles and one round of singles will be played on Friday. The doubles championship will take place on Saturday, while the singles final will occur on Sunday.
