Clemson Women’s Tennis Competes At Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team competed in the Furman Fall Classic last weekend in Greenville. The Tiger doubles team of Laurence Jayet and Cinny Clausen placed third in flight two. The doubles team opened the tournament with an 8-6 win over Dana Noel and Meiling Parks of Tennessee. Jayet and Clausen dropped an 8-1 decision to Sarah Riske and Annie Plessigner of Vanderbilt, then defeated Furman’s Jarrell Starnes and Natalie The 8-6.

The Clemson doubles team of Catherine Galvin and Anna Savitskaya placed seventh in flight one. Kristy Blumberg and Kate Burson of Virginia handed the Tigers an 8-5 loss in the first round, then Meredith Moore and Gene Holman of Furman defeated Galvin and Savitskaya 9-7 in the second round. Galvin and Savitskaya defeated Middle Tennessee State’s Tina Hojnik and Michaela Gridling 9-7 for seventh place.

Savitskaya led Clemson with a sixth-place finish in singles action. In flight four, Tamara Sutton (South Carolina) defeated Savitskaya 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round, before Savitskaya took a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 win over Gridling of Middle Tennessee State. Candy Reid of Tennessee defeated Savitskaya 6-2, 6-4 to place fifth.

Galvin, Jayet, Clausen and Sunny Harmon each placed seventh in their respective singles flights.
