Clemson Women’s Swimming Finishes at NCAA Championships

COLLEGE STATION, TX – The Clemson women’s swimming team completed competition at the NCAA Championships on Saturday having racked up four points en route to a 43rd place overall finish. The meet was held at the Student Rec Center Natatorium at Texas A&M.California won the national championship with 411.5 points.

Michelle Parkhurst and Rachel Regone competed in individual events for the Tigers, the 200 backstroke and the 100 freestyle. Parkhurst, the school record-holder in the event placed 32nd witha 1:55.88. Regone swam a 49.50 in the 100 free, the seond-best time of her career. 

The two then teamed up with Alex Allen and Lauren Sindall for the 400 free relay, with the group placing 21st in the nation. 

The 2009 NCAA championships mark the conclusion of the 2009-08 campaign for the swimming and diving program. Highlights of the season include Parkhurst’s defense of her ACC title in the 200 free and silver medal in the 200 back.

Additionally, the group of Regone, Sindall, Allen, and Parkhurst placed 15th in the nation in the 200 free relay, earning them each honorable mention All-America status.
