Clemson Women’s Swimming and Diving Defeats Gardner-Webb

The Clemson women’s swimming and diving team defeated Gardner-Webb 127-78 in dual meet action on Friday night at the McHugh Natatorium. Clemson’s men’s and women’s teams will return to Atlantic Coast Conference action Saturday at noon, when the Tigers travel to face Georgia Tech.

Clemson took command of the meet, winning nine of the 13 events. The Tigers began with a victory in the 1000 free as freshman Whitney Sandison set a personal best with her winning time of 10:18.10. Junior Ashley Shafer earned event victories in the 50 free (24.91) and the 100 breast (1:05.37). Sarah Cefalu set her personal best in the 200 IM with a winning time of 2:09.11. Nikki Deering won the 100 fly with a time of 58.08. Junior Kim Routh was victorious in the 500 free with a time of 5:02.05. Clemson ended the meet by taking the top two spots in the 200 free relay with times of 1:39.08 and 1:40.24.

The Clemson men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will be back in action at noon on Saturday when they travel to face Georgia Tech in ACC action.
