Clemson Women 24th in Final Golfstat Ranking

Clemson, S.C.—Clemson finished 24th in the final Golfstat rankings for the 2017-18 academic year. The Tigers schedule ranking was 17th according to Golfstat, highest in the program’s five-year history.

Clemson completed its season at the Tallahassee Regional in May where it missed advancing to the National Championship Tournament by just one shot after losing in a playoff to Wake Forest.

Individually, three-time All-ACC junior Alice Hewson ranked 41st in the final Golfstat.   The native of the United Kingdom who just finished playing for the GB&I team in the Curtis Cup ranked 29th in the nation in scoring average at 72.10, 33rd in scoring average vs. par and 12th in the nation in par four scoring average at 4.04. She was also 48th in the nation in birdies with 102.

Hewson also ranked 45th in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin computer rankings. Hewson owns 40 Clemson rankings entering her senior year, including school records for scoring average on a season and career basis.

Senior Sydney Legacy of Lexington, S.C. was ranked 48th by Golfstat and 54th by Golfweek in their final individual rankings. Legacy also ranked 13th in the nation in par three scoring average at 3.01.

Ana Paula Valdes, a sophomore from Mexico, was a third Clemson women’s golfer with a top 120 ranking. She was No.120 in the final Golfweek rankings and No. 133 according to Golfstat.

As a team, Clemson was seventh in the nation in par three scoring average (3.12), 23rd in scoring average (74.28) and 27th in scoring average vs. par +2.58.
