CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson Men’s Soccer team will play host to Davidson on Wednesday in an exhibition match at 7:00 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field. This will be the first opportunity to see the Tigers in action this season. The Tigers also have another exhibition match with Winthrop on August 21.
Clemson Head Soccer Coach Mike Noonan welcomes back nine starters and 12 letterwinners from last year’s squad.
Davidson finished the 2010 season with a 7-7-6 record overall. The Wildcats return seven starters and 18 letter winners from last year.
“We look forward to the start of another year,” said Noonan. “We have some great talent returning along with a lot of exciting new players on the team this season. We are anxious to get started.”
The Tigers open the 2011 season at Alabama-Birmingham on August 27. Clemson’s first home match will be against South Carolina on Friday, September 2, at Historic Riggs Field.
Clemson’s 2011 Schedule features eight schools that participated in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
“We are excited to start our second season at Clemson,” said Clemson Head Coach Mike Noonan. “We have improved our strength of schedule this season to challenge us consistently throughout the year. Our home schedule is terrific beginning with South Carolina on first Friday and including UNC Greensboro, Duke, Charlotte, Gardner-Webb, Virginia, Boston College, Furman, Adelphi, and Maryland.
Noonan enter his second year at Clemson. Noonan came to Clemson after a very successful stint at Brown from 1995-2009. While there, he led the Bears to 10 NCAA Tournaments and eight Ivy League Championships in 15 seasons.
Davidson is one of Clemson’s oldest soccer foes. Clemson and Davidson first met in 1935. Although tomorrow’s match is an exhibition match, the Tigers lead the overall series 5-3-3.
