CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s soccer team will play at Virginia Saturday night in Charlottesville, VA. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
Clemson is now 0-5-1 overall and 0-2 in the ACC. The Tigers are led in scoring by Nathan Thornton with two goals and one assist for five points. Joseph Bendik has 30 saves this season. He is now in sixth place on the Clemson career list for most saves with 216.
Virginia is now 5-1 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Cavaliers are ranked 11th nationally this season.
This will be the 51st meeting between Clemson and Virginia in men’s soccer. The Cavaliers lead the overall series 25-20-5. In matches played at Charlottesville, the Cavaliers lead 11-9-2. Last year Virginia defeated Clemson 1-0 at Charlottesville.
The 2009 season marks the 75th anniversary of Clemson soccer as the Tigers first played Furman on February 14, 1934. This was also the first intercollegiate men’s soccer match in the state of South Carolina. Clemson fielded soccer in 1934 through the 1939 season. Fred Kirshner coached theTigers during this time.
