CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s soccer team will play host to fifth-ranked Virginia at 7:00 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field.
Clemson is now 1-3-1 overall, and 0-1-1 in the ACC. The Tigers recently defeated Furman, 1-0, in overtime on Sept. 22. Riley Sumpter leads the team with two goals, while Nick Burton has scored one.
Virginia is 4-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in league play. The Cavaliers defeated American 2-0 on Tuesday night. Virginia is ranked fifth in the Sept. 21 Soccer America poll and seventh in the Sept. 21 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) top 25.
This will be the 52nd meeting between Clemson and Virginia on the soccer field. The Cavaliers lead the overall series 25-21-5. In matches played at Clemson, the series is tied 10-10-2. The Tigers have won two out of the last three matches with the Cavaliers including a 1-0 win over 11th-ranked Virginia last season in Charlottesville.
“Virginia is a very talented team,” said Clemson Head Coach Mike Noonan. “They never rebuild, they simply reload. This match with Virginia will be a great way to measure where we want our program to be eventually. After being on the road, we want to encourage our fans to come out to Historic Riggs Field and support our team. We need all the help we can get.”
