Clemson vs. Georgia Tech, ACC Tournament Postgame Notes

TEAM

  • Clemson won its 20th game of the season Thursday in the ACC Tournament, a 69-65 overtime triumph over Georgia Tech.
  • The 20 wins signify the most by a Clemson team coming off a season in which the Tigers had a losing record.
  • It is the 13th time in school history the Clemson program has won 20 or more games in a season, and first since 2010-11.
  • Clemson’s win was its first in the ACC Tournament since 2011, when the Tigers beat Boston College, also after a bye.
  • The Tigers defeated an ACC team away from home for a fifth time this season, most since the 2007-08 team also won five games over conference teams outside of Clemson.
  • Clemson rallied from a halftime deficit to win, the sixth time that has been achieved this season. That is the most since the 1989-90 team also did it six times.
  • Clemson has played two straight overtime games, the first time that has occurred to the Tiger program since the final two games of the 1978-79 season.
  • Clemson’s win Thursday was its 10th straight in the series against Georgia Tech, just one shy of the school record 11 set against Virginia from 1960-65.
  • The Tigers defeated Georgia Tech for the third time this season, the first time Clemson went 3-0 over the Yellow Jackets in a season.
  • The last time Clemson beat a team three times in one season was Maryland in 2004-05.
  • In Clemson’s 10-game streak against Georgia Tech, five have come by margins of five points or less.
  • The Tigers earned their sixth win by five points or less, all against ACC teams. That matches the 1986-87 team for ACC victories decided by five or less.
  • With Thursday’s win, Clemson is just the ninth team in ACC history to win 20 games following a season in which it had a .420 winning percentage or less. The most recent to do it was Georgia Tech in 2009-10.
  • Clemson earned its third win in the month of March, most since the 2010-11 season.
  • Thursday was the fifth time since 1977 that Clemson overcame a halftime deficit to win an ACC Tournament game, and first since the Tigers beat Duke in 2008.
