ATLANTA – The Clemson volleyball team traveled to Atlanta for a spring scrimmage with Georgia Tech on Wednesday. The Tigers came out with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) win against the Jackets, who have played to five sets in each of their previous five regular-season showdowns.
“I was really pleased with how we competed, and we made some great second efforts to try and better the ball for the setters,” said Jolene Jordan Hoover, who recently completed her 18th season at the helm of the program.
Rising junior Natalie Patzin led Clemson with 14 kills, and the Tigers did what they do best, blocking several Tech attacks. Clemson led the ACC in blocking in the 2010 season.
Two-time All-ACC selection Cansu Ozdemir had two kills and four blocks after playing at the libero spot all season.
All-ACC Freshman Hannah Brenner and first-semester freshman Kamryn Sherman split setting duties. Sherman helped to rally the Tigers in the first set for the win, and has showed a lot of promise for playing time in 2011.
The Tigers will lose only Ozdemir off a team that finished 18-13 in 2010. Clemson will scrimmage Georgia on April 6 in Athens before hosting Furman and Georgia State for a Tournament on April 9 in Jervey Gymnasium.
