CHARLESTON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team earned a second place finish in the College of Charleston Spring Tournament on Saturday. The Tigers had a 3-1 record in first round of pool play to earn a top seed for the playoffs held later that afternoon. Clemson then defeated the host-Cougars in the semifinals before falling to North Carolina in the championship match.
The Tigers opened the competition with a win over Charlotte and followed that with a victory against Coastal Carolina. The team fell in its third match of the day to the College of Charleston before rebounding to defeat Charleston Southern.
The 3-1 record during the pool play format earned Clemson one of the two top seeds and a first-round bye in the afternoon’s playoffs.
The Tigers avenged their morning loss to the Cougars with a victory over the host-school in the semifinals to advance to the finals of the tournament. Clemson then fell to North Carolina in three sets in the finals to finish second. The teams played a best two-out-of-three format in the playoffs.
The Tigers will be back in action on Apr. 11 as they play host to their own spring tournament at Jervey Gym. Clemson is slated to play at 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.
