Clemson Volleyball Defeats Tennessee Tech to Move to 2-0

CLEMSON- The Clemson volleyball team moved to 2-0 in the Big Orange Bash with a 3-0 win (25,13, 25-12, 25-18) over Tennessee Tech on Saturday afternoon in Jervey Gymnasium. It sets up a 6:00 pm Big Orange Bash Championship match with Albany, a 3-0 winner over Jacksonville on Saturday morning.

For the second straight match, Clemson held its opponent to a sub-.100 hitting percentage. Setters Lacy Hayes and Hannah Brenner split time, leading the Tigers to a .355 hitting day with 41 kills against only eight attack errors in 93 chances.

Preseason All-ACC selection Sandra Adeleye led all players with 12 kills, hitting .524. Freshman Mo Simmons had nine kills, eight digs, and three blocks. Serenat Yaz posted a career-best 16 digs to go with her five kills.

Clemson took the first set, 25-13 behind three kills apiece from Yaz and Adeleye as Hayes played setter. Defensively, Clemson held the Golden Eagles to a .000 hitting percentage, and a 28% sideout percentage.

The second set was all Clemson, as Brenner had 12 assists in leading Clemson to a .593 hitting percentage. The Tigers had 17 kills against only one attack error, as Natalie Patzin had five of her seven kills in the set. The Tigers were able to side out on 12 of the 13 Tennessee Tech serves, allowing a two-point streak only once.

The Third set was all Simmons and Adeleye, who combined for 10 kills. Adeleye had the final point on a vicious attack.

The Big Orange Bash concludes Saturday evening as Jacksonville takes on Tennessee Tech at 4:00 pm and Clemson plays Albany for the Championship at 6:00 pm. Clemson’s match will be available on TigerCast on ClemsonTigers.com.
