Clemson Travels to No. 10 Louisville

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s soccer team is set to travel to No. 10 Louisville for its final road match of the 2018 regular season on Saturday.

Who: Clemson Tigers (5-7-1; 0-5-0 ACC) vs. No. 10 Louisville Cardinals (7-3-3, 3-1-2 ACC)

Clemson Notes:

• Clemson most recently saw action on Tuesday night in a 1-0 loss to Coastal Carolina at Historic Riggs Field.
• Adrian Nuñez leads the team with five goals on the year, and that combined with one assist give him 11 points on the year. However, the Tigers have had a variety of players contributing to scoring this season, with 15 players tallying at least one point so far.
• Aside from Nuñez, eight Tigers have all found the back of the net at least once this season: Tanner Dieterich (3), Quinn McNeill (2), Grayson Barber (1), Patrick Bunk-Andersen (1), Andrew Burnikel (1), Malick Mbaye (1), John Murphy Jr. (1) and Kimarni Smith (1).
• Charlie Asensio, Barber, Burnikel, Nate Hall, Johnny Heckman, Justin Malou, Chris Matlashewski, Smith and Cale Thorne have all added at least one assist.
• Keeper Jonny Sutherland has seen the majority of action in goal for the Tigers, totaling 21 saves against 16 goals allowed in 887 minutes over 10 matches. However, George Marks has also seen time, playing all 110 minutes of the Tigers’ double-overtime match against UMass as his collegiate debut in addition to every minute of Clemson’s matches against College of Charleston and Pitt. Through the three matches, Marks has allowed three goals against six saves. Nolan Lennon played the final 11 minutes of the Tigers’ match against Furman and allowed one goal.
• The Tigers are led by team captains Bunk-Andersen and Dieterich. 

Louisville Notes:

• The Cardinals most recently saw action in a 3-2 upset by unranked Lipscomb at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Senior forward Tate Schmitt scored his 25^thcareer goal and freshman Pedro Fonseca contributed his first collegiate goal.
• Schmitt, senior midfielder Adam Wilson and junior midfielder Cherif Dieye each have a team-leading four goals on the year.
• Aside from that trio, six other Cardinals have found the back of the net this season.
• Sophomore keeper Jake Gelnovatch has seen the majority of action in goal for the Cardinals, allowing 10 goals against 21 saves in 871 minutes over nine matches. Fellow sophomore Will Meyer has played the entirety of four matches for Louisville, totaling six goals allowed and six saves in those 360 minutes. 

Series Notes:

• The last meeting between the Tigers and Cardinals was in the 2017 regular season finale, which saw then-ranked No. 11 Louisville come away from Historic Riggs Field with a 2-1 win over then-ranked No. 4 Clemson.
• The last time the two teams met at Louisville was in 2016, and Clemson emerged with a 1-0 win.
• Dating back to 2014, Clemson holds a 3-1-1 advantage in the series.
