Clemson Track & Field Shows Support for Alabama Program Following Tornado in Tuscaloosa

May 23, 2011

On Wednesday, April 27, Tuscaloosa, AL was hit hard by an EF4 tornado that killed hundreds. Brittany Waller, a member of Clemson’s track and field team, organized the Tiger program’s efforts to show their support for Alabama’s track and field team.

My name is Brittany Waller, and I am a thrower from Greenwood, SC and a member of the Clemson track and field team. I wanted Clemson track and field to do something to show our care and concern for the track and field student-athletes at the University of Alabama, because, regardless of what conference we are affiliated with, we are part of an encouraging track and field community, a community where people lovingly support each other. I obtained permission from our Compliance Office and secured the support of our coaching staff before presenting the idea to my teammates. My idea was to create a card, filled with messages of encouragement and prayers, to send to Alabama’s track and field program. The entire team took part in the plan. We made the card one day at practice and it was mailed to Alabama last week!
