Clemson to Open Outdoor Season at Charlotte Friday & Saturday

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson track & field team kicks off its 2018 outdoor season at Charlotte’s 49er Classic Friday and Saturday (March 16-17). The meet will be held at Transamerica Field in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“Right now, it’s more of getting back to basics, trying to get everyone back – in track terms – we would say loading back up,” said head coach Mark Elliott. “This meet at Charlotte, which is just right up the road and is a convenient trip for us, is more to get people back into training mode.”

The Tigers are coming off an impressive 2017-18 indoor campaign in which Clemson saw a program record of nine qualifiers at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Additionally, both the Clemson men and women placed third at the 2018 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

“With regards to the events that you’ll see our athletes in, some of them will be their primary event, and some of them won’t. Those who qualified for last weekend’s NCAA Indoor Championship will have this weekend off to recover, but for those that didn’t, they’ll be hitting the ground right away. You’ll see it all come together after the North Florida Invite, and then we’ll get into the high-powered meets. Once we get two weeks in – after spring break – is when we start trying to hit our marks in order to qualify for ACC Championships and NCAA Regionals.”
