Clemson to Face South Carolina in Men’s Soccer Friday

The Clemson men’s soccer team will play host to South Carolina in the 2005 season opener on Historic Riggs Field. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m, and admission is free to the match.

The Clemson Athletic Department is encouraging all Tiger fans to show their spirit and wear orange for the One Clemson…Solid Orange…It’s About Pride event. The Annual Central Spirit First Friday parade and pep rally will conclude in Riggs Field prior to the soccer match.

The first 500 fans wearing orange to the men’s soccer match will receive a free One Clemson…Solid Orange…It’s About Pride t-shirt with four of those shirts specially marked for additional prizes. The Tiger Band, Cheerleaders, Rally Cats, the Tiger and Tiger Cub mascots and Central Spirit will be on hand to welcome fans to the electric atmosphere.

For the third consecutive season for the selected men’s and women’s basketball, men’s soccer and baseball games, an additional One Clemson…Solid Orange contribution will be added to each athletic ticket sold. The proceeds from the One Clemson event will be used for specific One Clemson academic efforts. The One Clemson concept recognizes the strength of unity in everything we do as a University. The One Clemson Fund supports the University’s academic goals that will further enhance the ability of Clemson University to make for a stronger South Carolina and nation. In the first two seasons, Athletics has contributed over $ 140,000 to the One Clemson Fund.

One event per sport each year will be designated Solid Orange…One Clemson Day. The goal is produce a sell-out crowd, recognize University wide accomplishments, promote all sports and show Clemson spirit. Solid OrangeŠOne Clemson is the advancement of the principle adopted by the University and utilized by Athletics to create significant awareness of the Solid Orange…One Clemson principle which promotes unity, spirit and oneness with the Clemson Family.

“The Solid Orange…One Clemson principle promotes unity, spirit and oneness with the Clemson Family. Its goal is to build strong relationships throughout the state and assist Clemson in becoming a Top 20 Institution. One event per sport each year will be designated Solid Orange in order to recognize University wide accomplishments, promote all sports and show Clemson spirit,” said Phillips.

This will be the 33rd meeting between Clemson and South Carolina on the soccer field. Clemson leads the overall series 20-11-1. The Tigers are 8-1-1 in the last 10 meetings against South Carolina. Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair will be starting his 11th season at Clemson. He welcomes six starters and 11 letterwinners back from the 2004 season.
