Clemson, S.C.—Senior Carson Young shot an even-par 70 to lead Clemson to a 286 team score after the first round of the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. The 15-team field includes 12 of the top 25 teams in the nation, including six of the top 10.
While Clemson is in 10th place, the Tigers are just four shots out of fifth after 18 holes. Oklahoma leads the way at seven under par 273, one of four teams to break par on Sunday. The tournament continues Monday and Tuesday at the site of the PGA Tour’s Colonial Invitational.
Young led the way with four birdies and four bogeys. He played his first six holes at three over par, then played the next 11 at four under before finishing with a bogey on his last hole. He is in 16th place in the individual race.
Bryson Nimmer had a one over par 71 and is in a tie for 27th place after making three birdies and four bogeys. Freshman Doc Redman birdied the first and second holes, but finished with a two over par 72, good enough for 34th place. Redman won The Jackrabbit with a 13 under par score in Clemson’s most recent tournament.
Freshman William Nottingham made a triple bogey on the 10th hole, but still finished with a 73. Josh Fickes finished with a 76.
