CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson swimming and diving teams will travel to Columbia on Friday to take on the Gamecocks the day before the Tigers and the Gamecocks meet on the football field. The meet will be held at Carolina Natatorium and the first event is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
The Clemson men boast two ACC-swimmers of the week. Sophomore Drew Scheerhorn earned the conference honor for the week of Oct. 30, after he swam a lifetime best 46.61, in the 100 free against Virginia. Scheerhorn also helped the 400 medley relay team to a second-place time of 3:25.17, and finished fourth in the 50 free with a time of 21.82, against Virginia. Junior Gregor Govse claimed swimmer of the week honors this week after remaining undefeated in the breaststroke events by winning the 100 breaststroke against Florida with a time of 56.77. Prior to the meet against Florida, Govse earned first-place finishes in the 200 breast against Florida State with a time of 2:04.50, and Virginia with a time of 2:04.62.
The Clemson women’s 200 free relay team of juniors Jenna Burtch and Elise Theiler, and seniors Patty Hider and Caroline Peterson broke a 14 year old pool record last Friday against Florida. The team completed the event with a winning time of 1:34.41 at McHugh Natatorium in the final event of the meet.
Both the men and women’s teams will be looking for more record-breaking performances this Friday against South Carolina.
