Clemson Rowing to Compete in Head of the Hooch Regatta

Nov. 1, 2007

The Clemson rowing team will travel to Chattanooga, TN this Saturday to take part in the 27th annual Head of the Hooch regatta. Clemson will enter nine total boats, including three Varsity 8+ boats, four Varsity 4+ boats, and two Novice 8+ boats.

The Head of the Hooch is a 5,000m (3 1/4 mile) head race on the Tennessee River ending at Ross’s Landing Park in Chattanooga. All boats are started sequentially and will race against the clock.

“The Head of the Hooch is a great regatta to end our fall season. This regatta will include some of the best in the Southern Region, including three programs ranked in the top 17 last season,” said Head Coach Richard Ruggieri. “We look to build upon a successful Charles and are excited to see our 2nd and 3rd Varsity 8s compete for the first time. We are fully aware that we need to be at our very best in order to meet our goals at the Hooch. We look forward to the opportunity to race great crews.”

Clemson’s Varsity 8+ boat finished fourth in last years regatta, as did the Varsity 4+ and Novice 8+ boats.

This will be the final regatta of the fall season for the Tigers.
