Clemson Ranked 11th in Final Golf World Coaches Poll

Clemson, SC – Clemson’s golf team is ranked 11th in the final regular season Golf World Coach’s Poll. The Tigers begin play as the number-two seed in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. Clemson is also ranked 11th in the final regular season Sagarin/Golfweek computer poll.

Clemson is the highest ranked ACC team in the final Golf World poll. Clemson was ranked between sixth and 12th in every poll during the 2006-07 season. Georgia ranked first, while Stanford is second and Alabama is third in the May 16 poll. Defending NCAA champion Oklahoma State is fourth, followed by Southern California and Lamar. UCLA is seventh, Florida is eighth, UNLV is ninth and Coastal Carolina is 10th. Georgia Tech is the second highest ranked ACC team with a #13 ranking. The Yellow Jackets are the host school for the NCAA East Regional this weekend. Other ACC teams in the top 25 include Wake Forest (#21), and Florida State (#25).

Clemson begins play in the East Regional at the Golf Club of Georgia’s Lakeside Course at 11:30 AM on Thursday. Freshman Sam Saunders will be Clemson’s first golfer. Ben Martin starts at 11:39, David May at 11:49, Tanner Ervin at 11:58 and Kyle Stanley at 12:08. Clemson will play with Georgia and Florida for the first two rounds of the 54-hole event, which will conclude on Saturday. The top 10 teams in the 27-team field advance to the NCAA Championship May 30 to June 2 at Williamsburg, VA.

DIRECTIONS TO THE GOLF CLUB OF GEORGIA From Clemson, SC Take I-85 South to I-285 towards Chattanooga, TN. Take Georgia 400 – From Georgia 400, exit onto Windward Parkway, exit 11. Travel eastbound 2.2 miles to Golf Club Drive, just a short distance past the traffic light at the intersection of Windward Parkway and Clubhouse Drive. Turn right onto Golf Club Drive and proceed to the guard house.

Traveling to the club from the east side of Alpharetta – Travel North on Medlock Bridge Road/Highway 141. Turn Left onto McGinnis Ferry Road. This intersection consists of a Texaco and a McDonald’s on the left and a Wendy’s and a Kroger on the right. Go to the stop sign and turn right. Still traveling on McGinnis Ferry Road, travel approximately 5 miles until you see a stacked stone marquis with the word “Windward.” Turn left onto Windward Parkway. Travel 1.5 miles and at the top of the hill, turn left onto Golf Club Drive.
