CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s basketball team takes the court for the first time this season when it hosts Lander at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the Tigers’ only exhibition game of 2019-20. Admission is free.
The Tigers return five letterwinners from a season ago, including leading scorer and preseason All-ACC selection Kobi Thornton, who averaged 14.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in 2018-19. Clemson welcomes eight new faces – five freshmen and three transfers – to round out the squad of 15. Transfers Kendall Spray (R-Jr.) and Mikayla Hayes (R-So.) will see their first action for the Tigers after sitting out last season, as will R-Jr. Nique Cherry, who is eligible in January.
Clemson faces off with Lander for the fourth time in program history and second-straight year. The Tigers hold a 3-0 lead in the series, including an 84-53 exhibition victory last season. Lander head coach Kevin Pederson is a Clemson alum, spending five seasons as a men’s basketball manager before graduating in 1999.
The Tigers are coming off an 9-7 record in conference play in 2018-19, the most since 2002. Clemson Head Coach Amanda Butler was named the league’s Coach of the Year following her first season at the helm, after guiding the Tigers to a seventh-place finish. Clemson won three games against top 25 teams in 2018-19, all coming in ACC play.
All single game tickets are on sale for adult and youth/seniors at $6 and $4, respectively. Children 12 and under are free. Single-game and season tickets can be purchased online or at 1-800-CLEMSON. All seats for women’s basketball are general admission.
