Clemson Opens Outdoor Track & Field Season in Charlotte

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson will open the 2013 outdoor track & field season this weekend at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, NC. The Tigers will send nearly 50 student-athletes to compete Friday and Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center. Clemson wrapped up top-25 team finishes last weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships.Warren Fraser, who sat out the indoor season due to an injury, will make his senior year debut this weekend in the 200 dash. The 2012 Olympian from The Bahamas was an NCAA qualifier as a junior in the 100 dash, but will make his debut in the 200 this weekend. The prelims are scheduled for 5:10 PM Friday, with the finals Saturday. He will be joined by Reggie Lewis, an ACC scorer in the event indoors.One of Friday’s featured events for Clemson will be the 1500 meters. Ty McCormack and Aaron Ramirez are scheduled to run for the Tigers at 7:20 PM. Also in the distance groups, Clemson will send out teams in the 4×800 relays.Elijah Britton is the top hurdler scheduled to compete this weekend. The ACC’s fifth-place finisher in the indoor high hurdles will take to the track Friday at 1:20 PM for the qualifying round of the 110 hurdles. Spencer Adams, bronze medalist at last week’s NCAA Indoor Championships, will not compete this weekend.In the field events, some of the top athletes expected to compete are Jalen Langston in the men’s high jump and Cory Thalheimer in the men’s throws.
