Clemson Dominates Home Event Versus North Carolina, Oklahoma

CLEMSON, S.C. — Dominating a home event in which they won every race, the Tigers showed out in a three-team event on Saturday. Clemson competed against North Carolina and Oklahoma and won all five races. In the four-boat 2V4+/3V4+/4V4+ race, the Tigers’ 2V4+ squad crossed the finish line first, while the Tigers’ 3V4+ and 4V4+ boats took third and fourth, respectively.

The Saturday morning conditions on Lake Hartwell included mild temperatures, partly cloudy skies, light winds and a slight head current in the water. Clemson’s 1V8+ boat, which was coxed by Kate Hadley, won with a time of 6:57.5. The Tigers’ 1V4+ boat, featuring coxswain Julia Suplick, won in dominant fashion by clocking in at 7:58.3, more than 10 seconds faster than second-place UNC.

The Tigers won the regatta in resounding fashion with 81 points. Oklahoma earned second place with 70 points, and third-place North Carolina rounded out the field with 65 points. The 2V4+/3V4+/4V4+ and 3V8+ races did not count toward the point totals because Oklahoma did not field a boat in them.

Clemson will next compete in the Lake Wheeler Sprints on April 23-24. The two-day regatta in Raleigh, N.C., is set to feature heats on Friday and finals on Saturday.

This race was designated as Clemson’s Pride Game, celebrating the LGBTQ community, in conjunction with Athlete Ally and the Harvey and Lucinda Gantt Multicultural Center. To learn more about how Clemson University supports the LGBTQ community, visit the Gantt Center here.
