QUICK FACTS Clemson and Maryland will meet for the 138th time Tuesday in a series that dates to the 1938-39 season. The Terrapins hold an 88-49 overall advantage in the series, with Clemson leading 35-26 in games played at home. The Tigers are coming off their fourth ACC road loss by four points or less, a 67-65 defeat at Virginia Tech on Saturday. Nine of Clemson’s 11 losses have been seven points or less. The Terrapins played well last time out against No. 5 North Carolina, but the Tar Heels claimed an 83-74 win in College Park on Saturday. Maryland has lost five of its last six. Clemson’s four road ACC losses have come by a total of 11 points, with the largest a four-point defeat against a ranked Virginia team on Jan. 31. Clemson has outscored its ACC opponents by 15 total points halfway through league play, yet the Tigers have a 3-5 conference record to this point. This will be the first-ever meeting between Clemson’s Brad Brownell and Maryland’s Mark Turgeon. Andre Young has not committed a turnover in three consecutive games for the Tigers in 101 total minutes of play. He has notched 10 assists during that time and now has a 3.1 assist-to-turnover ratio this season, second-best in the ACC behind North Carolina’s Kendall Marshall. K.J. McDaniels earned his first career start at Virginia Tech and responded with career-highs in points (14), minutes (28), rebounds (5), blocked shots (5) and assists (2). Bernard Sullivan, another Tiger freshman, also posted career-highs with seven points and four rebounds in just nine minutes of play at Virginia Tech. Tanner Smith’s streak of 13 games with at least one three-point goal was snapped Saturday at Virginia Tech, but he is still shooting a career-best 37 percent from behind the arc overall this season. Catalin Baciu has come off the bench to average 5.5 points per game in ACC play, fifth-best on the team. He is shooting 61 percent in conference games. Milton Jennings has returned from suspension and will dress for Tuesday’s game. Clemson’s honorary captain Tuesday will be former center Tom Wideman, who played for the Tigers from 1995-99.
