Clemson Men Headed to Georgia Relays for Outdoor Opener

March 15, 2007

Clemson, SC – The Clemson men’s track & field team will open its outdoor season this weekend at the Spec Towns Track at the University of Georgia. The Bulldog track & field program is playing host to the Georgia Relays on Friday and Saturday. Clemson has student-athletes entered in nine events.

The Tigers finished runner-up indoors at the ACC Championships and were 15th in the team standings at the NCAA meet last weekend. Travis Padgett led the way with a national title in the 60m dash, one of four Tigers to earn All-America honors during indoor season. Clemson looks to continue its success this outdoor season.

Padgett will not be among those traveling this weekend, but Clemson will have three competitors in the 400m dash. Corey Brown headlines the trio. In the 1500m run, four Tigers are slated to compete.

Joey O’Rourke will compete in the 110m hurdles, while Andrew Porter and Travis Swaggard are set for the 400m intermediate hurdles. The 4x400m relay team of Cowin Mills, Travis Swaggard, Andrew Porter, and Corey Brown is slated for competition as well this weekend.

In the field events, George Fields highlights the group of Tigers headed to Athens this weekend. He was ACC Champion in the long jump in February. Mitch Greeley, who participated at NCAAs last weekend, will headline a group of three in the pole vault from Clemson. He is the school’s record-holder in the outdoor pole vault.

Matt Feiling is the lone thrower heading to Georgia this weekend. A red-shirt freshman, he will compete in the discus throw for the Tigers.
