Clemson Golf Schedule Announced

July 14, 2008

Clemson, SC – Clemson head coach Larry Penley has announced the Tigers golf schedule for the 2008-09 academic year. Clemson will play nine regular season three-day tournaments this year, a schedule that will conclude with the annual ACC Tournament at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point, NC. NCAA bids follow after the conclusion of that event.

Clemson will open its schedule September 12 at the Carpet Capital Classic in Dalton, GA. The Tigers continue two weeks later at The Preview in Toledo, OH. Each year 15 of the top teams in the nation compete in the fall event that will be held at the site of the following spring’s NCAA Championship. This year’s Preview and NCAA Tournament will be held at Inverness.

Clemson will conclude its fall schedule with two tournaments in October. Clemson returns to The Brickyard in Macon, GA October 11-13, then will play at the Isleworth Collegiate in Windermere, FL October 26-28. That is the home town and home course of Clemson junior Sam Saunders. Clemson finished second in both events last year.

Clemson returns for its spring schedule February 27 at the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar, Puerto Rico. After a one-year absence, Clemson will travel to Las Vegas two weeks later for the Las Vegas Intercollegiate at Southern Highlands. Clemson will then return to The Hootie Invitational at Bulls Bay in Mr. Pleasant, SC to close out the month of March. Clemson was second at The Hootie last year. Clemson will then return to the United States Collegiate at the Golf Club of Georgia in Marietta, GA. Clemson won the event in 2006.

Clemson returns all five starters from its fifth ranked team of 2008. The Tigers will be led by All-American Sam Saunders, All-ACC junior Ben Martin, and four-year starter David May.
